I have a question!

This place has such confusing things! So many of the tools and machines here I've never even heard of... but some of it is pretty neat.

For example, I found something at the store the other day and I'm wondering if anybody can tell me how to use it... It's a small round flat thing, in the shape of a circle-- one side is dark and has writing on it, but the other side is very shiny and throws rainbows on the wall when you hold it into light.

Does this thing make music somehow? I think the sign said there was music on it... How do you get the music off of it so you can hear it?

What you got there is a CD, Miss Flute. You have to put it into a player, an' that'll let you hear the music. It's pretty simple technology though now that I think of it how does it work...?

Oh, so this is a CD! But what do you mean, put it in a player? What kind of player? It's a violin CD, so a violin player...

I think I'm confused.

Eheh. It's, well... hrm. It's a machine, and... see, some're big an' some are small. There's no one way to describe 'em all. Whether a home set or carried around, they all can make any kind of sound. Don't matter what music the CD has, it can play classic or rap or jazz.

You're at Bryant Park right? So there should be one somewhere in your room.

... Okay. Um... so it's a machine. And this thing will fit inside of it, right? And that makes the music play.

Um. It's not this thing on the kitchen counter with the handles and the two slots, right?

M-maybe I should just come over and show you which it is, huh?

[identity profile] unluckymelody.livejournal.com 2008-10-19 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
That might be a good idea, yes...

I really want to hear this music! It's a... CD? And the thing it came in says it has lots of wonderful violin songs on it.

Right then, I'll be over in a tick.

Sounds like a lovely selection. You don't mind if I listen to a bit of it with you, do ya?

Of course not! The violin is such a pretty instrument. My boyfriend plays the violin, so I know a lot of these songs through him. Beethoven and Mozart and Tchaikovsky and Bach...

When my brothers and I broke out of the Shinra labs, we didn't know a lot of things. You'll learn.

The round thing is a compact disk. They store information. Your computer should have a narrow slot in it somewhere where you can put it in -- the shiny side is the bottom. Depending on what kind of computer you have, you might have to fiddle with the menus to open a screen that will let you choose to play what's on the CD.

CDs don't just have music. They can also have things like research data on them, or video files.

Wait- You mean, this thing works on the computer? Really?

Okay, I'll mess around with it and see what I OH HEY IT OPENED! Oh!! It fits! That's great! Thank you so much!

Say, can you tell me something else? What's a video?

[identity profile] gunblade-dance.livejournal.com 2008-10-20 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
A video is... it's like a moving picture with sound. Like a painting or a photograph, but instead of being just one moment that's captured, it's a whole series of events.

plays music? sounds right up my ally.

I have no idea, but it sounds like it could be used to make something fun.
